I see you.

I travel often, which provides me with time to both read and think.  The latter tends to be most refreshing given the busyness of day to day life.  On a recent trip to New York City, I read a line in a powerful book that made me think of each of you:

Who comes into a person’s life may be the single greatest factor of influence to what that life becomes. – Robert Kegan; The Evolving Self (1982)

Why when I read this did I think of you?  “You” being a member of The Arsenal, or even broader, someone I would love to have as a member.  I feel that it was because each of you has come into my life, and I into yours, and that bond is one that should be taken seriously.

  • When you decided to join The Arsenal and endeavor CrossFit, why did you do it?
  • What were you trying to become?
  • What did you fear most about the decision?

I am interested in those answers because that is what we (The Arsenal team) are for.  We take personal responsibility for where you go once you are in relationship with us.  Some of the relationships we’ve built are within the facility through lessons, instruction and vigorous workout regimens.  Others have transcended the walls of The Arsenal and moved into your life at work and your life at home.  Those are the relationships that have hit me the hardest.

You work hard.  You have responsibilities.  You have to make decision, upon decision, upon decisions every day.  There is no rest.  There is no practice.  There is only DOING, or surviving it may seem.  YOU matter to me and to our team at The Arsenal.  We want the opportunity to be on your journey, and serve whatever role you need us to.  For those of you who are not members, this note may seem a bit personal.  To those of you who are, I hope this reflection and sharing validates further what you’ve already experienced.

Take the opportunity today to visit with Coach John, Josh, Emily, Greg, Adam or me, and share what you want to become through your investment of time, resources and energy at The Arsenal.  You may be surprised with how interested and useful we can be for you.  We care deeply that you are with us every week, and as some of you have experienced we do our best to find you if you have not been in for some time.

If you, or someone you know, need to “be seen” and is looking for a fitness community devoted to growth and development of the whole person, please visit us.  We are eager to meet you and work tirelessly with you on your journey.  I see you, and am eager to be part of the story you are writing with your life.

  1. BJ Is just a big guy with a bigger heart! What a privilege it was to travel with BJ, John, Jess and Kelsey to Erie, PA recently and witness BJs love for his family. Meeting his parents was evidence of a loving family that has provided BJ with the passion he has for people and fitness!!
Then there was John speaking with the athletes and asking if he could help them with a stretch!!
It is truly a privilege to be a part if The Muncie Arsenal family and ALL the coaches that truly care about each and every member and their road to well-being!
