“CrossFit Endurance is an endurance sports training program dedicated to improving performance, fitness and endurance sports potential. We inspire, coach, and provide our community with the most aggressive and proven fundamentals of sports science, exercise physiology, nutrition, and athletic training protocols. We are the leaders in strength and conditioning for endurance athletes. We are guiding athletes, educating coaches and providing premier content to the endurance communities with tremendous success. Our passion is endurance sports. Our goal is to show a path that has not been illuminated. Our training principles work. We are not for everyone, only for those who want to have a home in which they can grow both mentally and physically as an athlete to realize their chosen potential.”
I’m sure you are wondering why I wrote this post to give you the main site definition of Crossfit Endurance. I personally couldn’t be more excited about the future incorporation of Crossfit Endurance here at The Arsenal. In my own words, Crossfit Endurance is a supplemental training program aimed at those interested in becoming a better runner, more efficient runner, improving overall endurance for standard Crossfit, or someone training for an upcoming race or event. (DISCLAIMER: Please don’t go cancel your membership because you heard the word ‘run.’ This is an optional supplement program to our regular workouts.)
Crossfit Endurance implements cutting edge training methods to drastically reduce overall mileage with the intent to cut down on the endless number of unnecessary wear and tear injuries thousands and thousands of runners suffer from each day. Crossfit Endurance emphasizes intensity over volume, or “less is more.”
I am, and always will be a “runner” at heart. I ran cross country (5k-16:58) and track all through Jr High and High School. With track being my main passion I was a 2x state qualifier in the 400m dash (49.6) and also ran the 800m (1:56.9). Since 2006 I have completed four half marathons and one trail half marathon (trail races are awesome). I placed 333 Marathon, running 1:27 (6:39/mile pace). Although I don’t plan on doing any more races of that distance (my fingers are crossed because I’m sure I could easily be talked into it) I am still a regular at summer 5k’s and 10k’s and love nothing more than when Coach John programs the WoD with 400m, 800m, or miles worked in (glory days!).
When I discovered Crossfit I was giddy with excitement as I finally found a fitness model that allowed me to do my two favorite things at once, “run really fast and lift heavy stuff.” I have thoroughly enjoyed learning all the various Olympic and gymnastic movements Crossfit has to offer and even more so love coaching others on these movements. With the great opportunity BJ and John have given me here at The Arsenal I can now take the knowledge and principals from Crossfit Endurance, combine that with my own principals, methods, and years of experience running on tracks, trails, and roads and share my passions with you. So you too, can “run really fast and lift heavy stuff.”
Feel free to call or text me at 317-775-5007 or email me at joshua.m.winger @ us.army.mil with questions about Crossfit Endurance, running, training, nutrition, or just to chat. It’s a pleasure and a blessing for me to coach our great members at The Arsenal and I look forward to it for many years to come. As always, continue to work hard and Embrace The Grind.
Note from BJ McKay:
I want to echo Josh’s enthusiasm and commitment to CrossFit at The Arsenal and to our outstanding members. Josh reminds us everyday of how important this work is and how important this place is for our members. He renews my passion and purpose for this endeavor at each conversation. We’re blessed to have you Coach Josh, and looking forward to the wonderful pain and suffering of CrossFit Endurance you’ll be delivering to me, Coach John and our members. I’ll Embrace The Grind with you!
